Tree service in Rancho Santa Margarita

Canyon Neighborhoods at the Wildland Edge

Rancho Santa Margarita grew up as a planned community in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains, and many of its neighborhoods sit right against canyons, slopes and regional parkland. Streets are lined with trees that went in when the villages were built and are now full size, and many backyards back onto natural open space. That mix of mature street trees, slope plantings and native woodland is what most of our work here looks like: canopies over roofs, limbs over walls and trees that need thinning before wind season.

Being farther inland and higher up than the coast, the city sees hotter summers and stronger Santa Ana winds, which puts more stress on trees and on the limbs closest to homes.

 Crown Reduction
“Worked in a professional manor. Cleaned the neighbors yard, our yard and the street. We were very pleased with removing part of our large Chinese Elm and thinning out the crown.”
Karl Barbour, review on Google (opens in a new tab) Oct 2026
 Clean-up
“Luna has trimmed the 6 trees on our property for the last 2 years, and they do an excellent job. The trees look great, and they are super clean, so your yard looks perfect when they are done.”
Karen Parker, review on Google (opens in a new tab) Oct 2026
 Years of repeat work
“We have been using Luna tree for many years. A few days ago Isidro and Francisco did a great job in trimming our Peppermint tree and cleaning-up afterwords, at a reasonable price. Thank you Luna Tree!”
Tony Pira, review on Google (opens in a new tab) Oct 2026

How we work

Our services, explained

Oaks, Sycamores and Fire-Season Care

Common trees in Rancho Santa Margarita yards and streets include coast live oaks, California sycamores, pines, eucalyptus, jacarandas and palms. Oaks are best pruned lightly and at the right time of year, and sycamores drop a lot of leaf litter in fall. Where homes border open space, removing dead wood, raising canopies and keeping branches off roofs and away from chimneys helps reduce fire risk and wind damage. Eucalyptus in particular can shed large limbs and is worth having looked at before a windy season.

SAMLARC, HOA and City Notes

Rancho Santa Margarita is an incorporated city, and most homes also belong to an HOA, with the Santa Margarita Landscape and Recreation Corporation (SAMLARC) serving as the master association for much of the city. Trees visible from the street or in common areas can be covered by association guidelines, so check with your HOA before removing or replacing a front-yard tree, and with the City of Rancho Santa Margarita for anything on a slope or near a street tree. Once you have approval, we can schedule the work.
